SARMS RESEARCH OVERVIEW: RAD-140

The world of SARMs or selective androgen receptor modulators has long been a point of discussion in the world of PEDs. Proponents like Tony Huge push them as the future whereas detractors call them weak with a lack of human data. Today I wanted to dive into one of the most popular sarms its benefits and side effects, how to run it, and then finally how to dose.
First let's briefly go over what a SARM is. Sarms were designed for those that are androgen sensitive like women and children. They were made to be more selective to things like muscle tissues then other things like the prostate. For example a compound like Testosterone lacks any selectivity meaning it not only impacts the things we want like muscle tissue, but it also impacts things we don't want it to like the prostate.
In the world of Sarms I would say we have three that have the most research behind them. Those three would be Ostarine (Mk2866), LGD4033, and RAD-140. Of these three you really could make the case that Rad-140 is the strongest. To me though Rad-140 also brings the most side effects. Let's start at what Rad-140 does very well. Rad-140 is able to do a great job at packing on muscle and strength. It's way stronger than ostarine, but it also in my opinion gives a better look than LGD. Where LGD gives the user more of a full and watery look, RAD gives a really nice hard and vascular look. If you are familiar with real AAS Rad would be more like a DHT derivative. Do not think that just because you are hard and vascular that the RAD will make you look flat. In fact RAD can provide some amazing pumps and is used by some people as a preworkout. To summarize, RAD does a great job at building muscle, aiding in pumps in the gym, making you super strong, and giving a nice hard and vascular look. Now from a mental side of things you would argue that RAD is a blessing or a curse. Many users get what is called “rad rage”. This is because RAD can make you ultra angry and upset at the littlest things. I have used things like Halo and Tren and still RAD made me more angry then when using those. For me though it was just more of an irritability thing like I was constantly annoyed, but still very noticeable. On the flipside though this is very helpful for when training in the gym as RAD really motivated me to go super hard and push myself.
Now we get to the negatives of RAD. While RAD is the most effective of Ostarine and LGD it also comes with the most side effects. I will list where I saw the most side effects for myself, but of course when it comes to oral androgens the side effects are similar. You need to be mindful of skewed lipis (higher LDL and lower HDL), hepatotoxicity, renal toxicity, and increased stress on the heart. The big ones I noticed with RAD though was how it negatively impacted my mood, the joint pain it caused, and the hair loss. I touched on the negative mood effects in the paragraph before so I will jump to the issues I had with my joints. This honestly really sucked because while I felt like I had all the strength in the world I also felt like my elbow was about to snap when I was bench pressing. Now I do think this can be mediated with a good joint supplement protocol which I will drop in the coming weeks! I will say though check out from Muscle Gelz the BPC 157 and TB500 cream this was essential for me to keep my joints going good and to not get hurt on the RAD. I would always keep the cream in my bag and apply it right away after putting it on my elbows or joints. This is what helped me the most. The other side effect I ran into was that I got hit with hairloss. Now I do have decent hair genetics so for it to affect me means it must really be bad. RAD is notorious for causing hair loss issues. The best beginner hair loss stack I can recommend is Nizoral Shampoo, RU58841, and Minoxidil. Remember topical anti androgens will be far more effective with things like RAD since it is not causing the hair loss through DHT. The final two side effects I wanted to go into are the potential for testosterone suppression and insomnia. RAD initially was thought to have some application as a male contraceptive so safe to say it is very suppressive. This can be mitigated by a proper PCT of enclomiphene and tamoxifen and using something like HCG as a test base on cycle for proper estrogen conversion and fertility. Please if you are trying to conceive a child stay away from this compound. The other issue is Insomnia with RAD. Now I could literally make a massive sleep stack, but I will keep it basic. If you are having trouble sleeping on RAD look into Melatonin, ZMA, Glycine, Mk677 or GH, and CBD or THC. I know that THC interferes with sleep but some sleep is still better than no sleep!
Next I want to point to some interesting features of RAD-140 that we do not know if forsure will play out perfectly in the real world but are possibilities that are really cool. The first one is its potential to help with breast cancer. Yes RAD-140 in early studies has beens shown to inhibit the growth of androgen/estrogen receptor positive breast cancer models with a distinct mechanism of action. In the prostate Rad actually may exhibit some antagonist activity and block AR activation and AR mediated cellular proliferation in the prostate. RAD-140 also in rat studies has been shown to be neuroprotective. So aside from the typical muscle building capabilities it really has some cool potential in the future of medicine
My Rad 140 Protocol and Experience
Due to the longer half life (Around 60 hours) I dose 10mg EOD and bumped it to 15mg EOD at the second half of my 8 week cycle. Remember it does have a longer half life so dosing should be adjusted accordingly. 30mg a day comes out to a lot more when taking into account the half life. I also used it with the topical 4 andro cream from Iron Mag Labs. I added the 4 andro cream around week 3 because in the initial weeks your free testosterone rises due to SHBG declining from the sarm. It was a good run although I still maintain that it does not come close to old androgens like Tren and Primo. I gained really good strength and vascularity from it. I did have some mild hair loss, but 0 sleep issues. The two worst side effects for me were the joint issues and the mood issues. I was always super irritable and annoyed at small things. Then with the joint issues I felt really strong but like I was going to snap my elbow or knee at any moment. It is definitely a powerful androgen that works. I got some mild acne from it but nothing crazy. To sum it up it is definitely stronger then something like say ostarine, but I would pick ostarine over rad simply because I felt amazing on Ostarine mentally and joint wise. The final thing I noticed that was interesting is that RAD-140 made me a better athlete. I do not know how to describe this other than it hugely improved my endurance, and my overall ability to move. I noticed it alot when playing pickup basketball games. I moved better, faster, and could just go for longer.
Conclusion
So what are my final thoughts on RAD. I think RAD is a fun compound that definitely works and makes you “not natural” Out of the three most studied sarms (ostarine, rad, lgd) it definitely is the strongest, but it also comes with the most side effects. Personally, while it was fun the mood and joint issues were a bit annoying for me. I do not like being constantly annoyed all day and then having to worry about getting an elbow or shoulder injury everytime I lift in the gym. RAD is also highly suppressive so if you are going to run it then I would do a full pct with Enclomiphene and Tamoxifen. The coolest part for me was the endurance boost it gave me. I felt like I could do cardio all day and I felt like an amazing athlete. No other androgen has given me that boost so that was pretty cool.
